Design of an Annular Plate

 Introduction

A client asked for the simulation of an Annular Plate under UDL loadings. At that time, I did not accept the contract but decided to do it anyways when I got the time for it. 

Boundary Conditions

The Plate was subjected to pressures of 0.05MPa and 0.25MPa. The plate was mounted on a shaft at the center. The picture below illustrates the Boundary Conditions subjected on the plate. The material was chosen to be Structural Steel.

Mesh Metrics

The main Mesh metric observed was Skewness. Maximum was observed to be 0.92 while the average remained at 0.484. Overall, the mesh was suitable for the required analysis.

Results

The results of the simulation indicate a larger deflection (7.9mm) in the X direction where the greater Pressure was present. The maximum deflection noted in the Y direction was only 3.5mm.

No failure in the material was observed. The maximum von-Mises stress was 0.32MPa.

Conclusion

The results are according to the applied boundary conditions. The annular disk easily caters for the stresses it is undergoing.
